Meet Laura

Laura graduated from the highly rated University of Tulsa with a degree in Speech Language Pathology. Early in her career, while working at a Literacy Center in Aptos, California, she realized how much she had struggled with reading and learning over the years. It seemed like she had to work three times as hard to succeed academically. Getting diagnosed with Dyslexia as an adult was a turning point. Working one on one with neurodivergent students and helping them to succeed, became her passion and purpose. Wanting to learn more about reading education, Laura went on to earn an Educational Therapy degree from UCSC.
In 2003, Laura opened her own Educational Therapy practice, Learning with Laura, working with local schools and families in California. In addition to owning and operating this practice, in 2007, Laura embarked on Educational Therapy for stroke victims at The Cabrillo College Stroke and Disability Learning Center. The Stroke Center presented new educational challenges and diversified Laura's teaching methods and understanding of the brain.
Laura then took a promotion as the Lead Educational Therapist at Steps to Success Educational Therapy. There she was the Dyslexic Reading Specialist providing specialized training for teachers who were embarking on new careers. She trained these Educational Specialists in the Orton-Gillingham reading method and Lindamood Bell phoneme sequencing programs, among other programs. She was able to supervise and mentor them as they managed their caseloads, all while continuing to help students one on one.
In 2020, after a “pandemic move” back to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Laura founded Learning Beyond Letters, a company dedicated to helping neurodiverse students and families radically accept their beautiful brains. She took her skills and converted to online therapy, successfully teaching over zoom.
In the 2024-2025 school year, Laura happily announced a return to in-person sessions serving the Tulsa, Oklahoma community and surrounding areas. In addition to one on one student services, Laura offers parent classes and virtual groups for neurodivergent adults.
Over the course of her career, Laura has had the pleasure of helping thousands of families in person and online and has an outstanding reputation with parents, teachers and administrators.
Laura understands that everyone has a unique view of the world and knows how each person absorbs information is dependent on their perspective. She now preaches and practices radical brain acceptance in her own life. Laura's personable approach and relatability lets her quickly gain student trust so that learning can begin. Her students learn to accept their own brain and take control of their own daily study routines, thus gaining confidence and self-reliance.
